Class 2 News
Spring Term 2021
Class 2 have been very busy since returning to school after our second lock down. We have been getting to grips with fractions and learning how to find fractions of amounts. We have been trying very hard to learn our 6 and 7 times tables and have found some great songs online to help us with this. In science we have been learning about states of matter; what constitutes a solid, liquid and gas, and how, through different processes, they change from one state to another. The basis of our literacy this term has been on the Ancient Egyptians. The children wrote some fabulous stories based on a book by Shirly Climo called Egyptian Cinderella. We began by comparing it with the traditional story of Cinderella then set about changing various aspects of the Egyptian version to write our own. We also learnt about the life of the Ancient Egyptian King Tutankhamun and then used our research to write a short biography of his life. We also learnt about the importance of the River Nile in terms of providing fertile land for crops, for trade and transport and for providing the raw materials for items like paper, bricks and clothes. The children then presented the information as a poster. Since being back at school we have also been able to come together again for music with Class 3. We have learnt some some uplifting sea shanties including one called 'The Wellerman' which has been a real hit! It is lovely to see the obvious enjoyment the children get from singing as a group and I look forward to teaching them the songs for our play this summer! Watch this space!
Autumn Term 2020
I am looking forward to welcoming you to school in September. We are going to be working hard and learning lots of exciting new things. I have taken some photos of the classroom, so you can see what it looks like. To view these pictures, please scroll down to the bottom of this page and click on the document titled: Autumn 2020.... What will Class 2 look like when I go back to school. See you all very soon. Mrs Merry.
Class 2 and 3 Pottery Work
We have been looking at the work of Clarice Cliff this term and have made our own coil pots from clay and decorated them in the style of Clarice Cliff. She used bold colours and shapes in her Bizarre designs and a number of pupils used this as a basis for their pot design. See a picture of our finished pots below.

Class Two's visit to Hands on Heritage
As part of our Roman topic this term Class 2 visited “Hands on Heritage”, an activity centre based in Tunstall Forest, near Snape. In small groups we took part in several workshops including weaving sheep’s wool on looms to create Roman bracelets, making and cooking flat breads on an open fire and smelting pewter to make our very own Roman amulets. The highlight was being real-life archaeologists when we helped excavate a Roman villa. We cleared away loose sand and earth to reveal all sorts of Roman artefacts ranging from pieces of pottery, oyster shells, animal bones and roof tiles. The most exciting find was the mosaic floor and the fresco which was painted on the wall of the bath house. Here are some photos of the day. Please click on the link below for photos of the day.
