Perseverance

When exploring the value of perseverance, we encourage pupils to think about times when they have failed in their first attempt, but not given up. We look at examples from the Bible, including when the Devil tested Jesus in the desert and Noah building the Ark and persevering through the flood.

Pupils looked at the life of Betty Campbell, the first female black headteacher from Wales. Betty desperately wanted to be a school teacher when she was younger, but disappointingly was told by her teacher that “the problems would insurmountable.” However, this didn't stop Betty from achieving her dream and helping to educate others about black history. Hidden Heroines - Betty Campbell

Pupils learnt about the author Malorie Blackman and the number of rejections she received before a publisher agreed to take her on.
