Collective Worship and Spirituality

Let the Lord's Light shine upon us, and also within us.

Collective Worship

In our Collective Worship we follow an annual programme (please see the document below) and have chosen values that are important to us as a school: courage, friendship, compassion, responsibility, perseverance and creativity.  We then use these values across the school in our everyday learning.

Some of the stories we use are taken from the Bible, but some of the stories we use are books/authors that will be familiar to the children for example Julia Donaldson.

Spirituality at Charsfield C of E Primary School

At Charsfield Church of England Primary School, our understanding of spirituality is rooted in the Christian vision expressed in Matthew 5:16: “Let your light so shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” This verse inspires us to help every child recognise and nurture the unique light within themselves, and to use it for the good of all, and to see the goodness in others.

We explore spirituality through the shared analogy of a lighthouse. We encourage each member of our school community to see themselves and others, as a lighthouse, shining their light across a vast and ever‑changing ocean of life.

As lighthouses, our pupils and adults are supported to:

  • Be outward‑looking, developing curiosity, awe and wonder, and a wide vision beyond themselves and their immediate surroundings.
  • Serve the community, acting as beacons of hope, kindness and compassion for others.
  • Be built on firm foundations, rooted in Christian faith while also honouring personal beliefs, values and deep connections.
  • Develop a sense of purpose, understanding that meaning can be found in daily rhythms, reflection and relationships.
  • Learn resilience, recognising that spiritual growth needs encouragement, perseverance and inner nourishment.
  • Stand in the storm, building strength, courage and hope when facing challenges or uncertainty.

Through this shared spiritual language, we aim to help children explore who they are, how they relate to others, the world around them, to see our school values shine out from others, and, for many, their understanding of God—enabling every light to shine brightly and confidently.
